Behind the Bell

By Rachel Jury

From acting onstage to writing on a computer, Barbara Bell’s life is a page turner. This freelance editor and author became the host of a local TV show called Page Turners. The “book club turned hit talk show” was all thanks to TV Cogeco, who offered to broadcast Bell’s show.

Authors, publishers, even avid readers would “guest star” on Page Turners. But production was still to set forth in a studio the size of an average classroom. “Imagine trying to get a hold of four or five people who are all really busy and then finding studio time that works for all of their schedules,” Bell says, “The actual show is easier than the production and research done for Page Turners.”

On-set was both exciting and hard for Bell. The idea of filling a room with readers turned out differently than she had thought. Staying on topic was impossible. Bell says, “The conversation took on a life of its own.”

The dynamic of the conversation is what Bell loved the most. Unfortunately, Bell cut the show short to fulfill other projects. But she has assured all her fans and readers that she would do it again in a heartbeat and says, “It was quite awesome!”
